Community newspapers in South Africa have not taken to online journalism in a big way, yet.

The leader in online journalism is Mail and Guardian while community papers mainly depend on websites linked to their holding company's website

Most, if not all, community papers rely on websites with little initiatives around online journalism, though some are trying.

What mostly hampers South African newspapers going online are budget constraints and the lack of broadband accessibility thanks to the monopoly of of the government supported Telkom

It is hoped that the 2010 soccer World Cup that will be held in the country, will assist in bringing the necessary technology and infrastructure to South Africa.
